The primary responsibility for this position is the oversight and operation of the mass spectrometer facility associated with the Isotope Geobiology and Geochemical Oceanography Laboratories. Duties include: 1) ensuring the quality and reproducibility of all data and analyses produced in lab (including the training of PhD students in the correct use of equipment and wet chemical methods), and 2) operating, and servicing multiple continuous flow gas source isotope ratio mass spectrometers (two Delta V instruments with peripherals - EA and TC/EA) 3) providing maintenance/support for three MAT 253Plus, one Thermo MAT 253 Ultra, and one Thermo Neptune (multi-collector ICPMS). This is new, shared user facility hosting all this equipment. In parallel to managing this equipment, this position oversees the recording and retention of lab research records. The individual will be expected to be the primary lab point of contact with University research and maintenance personnel regarding all lab issues (both science and operations). The position is also responsible for all lab related safety issues and represents the lab on the Department Safety Committee. The position is also responsible for additional research duties as assigned and directed by the PI.

Candidates with experience in gas source mass spectrometry will be given priority.
Excellent analytical, quantitative and communications skills are required. Applicant must have an ability to maintain and organize written and computer-based records and laboratory notebooks. This job is service oriented, and will require the candidate be patient with new users, and flexible and adaptable to new techniques and instruments. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and be self-motivated. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic and a demonstrable record of quick/timely delivery of results are musts!
